Sithnivana Mental Health Rehabilitation & Counseling Centre

Sithnivana Mental Health Rehabilitation & Counseling Centre is a nonprofit organization on promoting Mental Health ,Counseling ,Rehabilitation, Psychology and Psychotherapy on developing the Mental Health among the community in Sri lanka. It provides residential rehabilitation care facility for males and females who are suffering from long term mental illnesses and counseling and psychological treatments for the community who seek the psychological aids. Not only that but also Sithnivana organization provides the residential care facility for senior citizens in the country who need caring.

It was established on the 21st January 2017 and registered under the Department of Social Services in Sri lanka under the registration no: WP/SSD/K/EH/2019/1

Our Services

Rehabilitation

Sithnivana Mental Health Rehabilitation & Counseling Centre conducts structured, well planned rehabilitation programs for the residential and non residential clients who are recovering from the long term mental illnesses to improve their basic skills, Social skills, cognitive skills ,occupational and leisure skills. Rehabilitation programs are being implemented by the Consultant Psychiatrists and Psychologists. Sithnivana operates theCommunity Based Rehabilitation (CBR)which offers the inmate a more relaxed environment.

Counseling

Counseling is provided by the qualified group of professionals who are with post graduate qualifications in clinical and counseling psychology for the inmates and the visiting clients who are seeking the counseling for various issues such as marriage, psychological disorders ,personality issues and adjustment difficulties. Even sithnivana provides outpatient counseling services and lectures on mental health for the community including schools, government organizations and various sectors.

Mr.M.Gunawardana (President)

Mr.M.Gunawardana is a retired People’s Bank Manager and Justice of peace (JP) who holds a master's degree in Sinhala and Mass communication from the University of Kelaniya and he holds a Diploma in Counseling conducted by the Institute of Psychological Studies (IPS ) and also a Psychological counselor. He is a member of the Sri Lanka National Institute of Professional Counsellors (SLNIPC). Mr.Gunawardana is a philanthropist and a dedicated social worker. He offers his service voluntarily to help people who need assistance with various psycho-social issues.

Mrs.A.N.K.Hinget (Treasurer/Chief Administrator)

Mrs.A.N.K.Hinget holds a Diploma in Human Resources Management and was a teacher of English who has worked in the private schools sector. Currently, she is a dynamic member who handles the administrative tasks in the organization.

Dr.Madura Gunawardana (Director/Clinical Psychologist)

Dr.Madura Gunawardana is a qualified Clinical Psychologist who provides counselling, psychotherapy, and psychological assessments for the inmates and outpatients at Sithnivana. Completed Ph.D. from Latin American University of Science and Technology(ULACIT), researching the efficacy of music therapy for schizophrenic patients relieving depressive and anxiety symptoms. He obtained his BSc degree in Psychology from the Alagappa University in India and his MSc in Psychology and Counselling from the Karnataka State Open University in India. He also obtained an MSc degree in Clinical Psychology from the Business University of Costa Rica and an MA degree in Sociology from the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka. He is also a Diploma holder in Counselling conducted by the Institute of Psychological Studies (IPS) in Sri Lanka. Dr.Madura Gunawardana is an International Affiliate Member of the American Psychological Association (APA), A Graduate Member (MBPsS ) of the British Psychological Society (BPS ), International Member of the Australian Counseling Association (ACA). He was a visiting lecturer in the Psychology of Family Health Bureau of the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka and the Open University of Sri Lanka. He is a skillful counseling psychologist and a good speaker, and lecturer in Psychology.

Dr.J.K.T.G.Premathilake (MBBS (Colombo)

(Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist)

Dr.Premathilake is a consultant Psychiatrist who served the government sector including the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Angoda Hospital attached to the Ministry of Health Sri Lanka since 1980 and he is a senior consultant psychiatrist with vast experience in Psychiatry.

Mr.Chandika Waduge
(Operations Manager)

Completed the Bachelor of Social Work at the National Institute of Social Development. Completed a Drug Counselling Course in the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board. Former Youth Educator in SOS Children's Village Sri Lanka. Worked as a Social Worker at Family Planning Association Sri Lanka. Trained in Social Work and Counseling at the National Council for Mental Health. Member of LEO Club of Social Work. Past Member of Youth Technical Advocacy in Sri Lanka Family Planning Association.

Mr.Sadaruwan Rajapaksha
(Resident Counselling Officer)

Completed Bachelor of Psychology at the University of Sri Jayawardanapura. Completed a Diploma in Counselling at the Mental Health Foundation. Completed a Certificate Course in Business Management & HRM in the Lanka Institute of Management Development.

Mr.Rivisan Wickramasinghe
(Resident Counselling Officer)

Completed the Bachelor of Social Work at the National Institute of Social Development. Completed a Diploma in Counseling and Psychotherapy at the Institute of Psychological Studies. Completed a Drug Counseling Course in the National Dangerous Drug Control Board. Former Psychological counsellor and caretaker at the National Council for Mental Health (Sahanaya). Former consultant and partner of RIWI Recycling Centre. Worked as the Project Consultant for the project of ‘Municipal Waste Recycling Project’ funded by USAID. Former Academic Consultant of the National Institute of Social Development. Experienced student social worker at the National Institute of Mental Health.

Ms.M.A.Lakshika Sandaruwani
(Resident Nurse)

Ms.Lakshika Sandaruwani is a Diploma holder in Nursing and has worked in the Medi Help Hospitals before joining Sithnivana. She provides nursing care for the inmates and the visiting patients at Sithnivana. Her committed service is also received for the administrative tasks at the organization.

Ms.K.D. Ishara Sewwandi
(Resident Nurse)

Completed a Diploma in Nursing at SMIDF Nursing School and has worked in the National Council for Mental Health (Sahanaya). Completed a certificate course in Pharmacy Practice at Ceylon Pharma College. A competent and capable nurse who is capable of managing the clients in a pleasant and responsible manner while providing superlative care for the clients.
